Community Update #1 - The Long Overdue Update!

Recommended Posts

In order to provide a bit more clarity and transparency behind the changes in the community, we decided to start making posts like these, so that we can have a consistent way of conveying any news & changes to the community, as well as immediate plans for the future!

Let's get right to it!

Black Desert

At release, we dove into Black Desert full force, reserving quite a large spot for it in the community in order to facilitate potential guilds or individuals joining our community. We approached it with open arms as opposed to just giving Black Desert players a small dusty corner in the community, and will most likely continue this approach with future MMOs. However, Black Desert's system doesn't really encourage social play the way Guild Wars 2 does. As such, it didn't really spark interest with our existing members. In order to make sure we're not cluttering the TeamSpeak and forums, we're moving Black Desert down to the Gaming Area. If activity or demand increases, we will restore Black Desert to its previous position.

  • TeamSpeak: Black Desert has been moved into the Let's Game area as a single channel with subchannels
  • Forums: The Black Desert forum has been moved, and is now a subforum of the Let's Game forum
  • The "Community Member - BD" tag for Black Desert players will not be removed, and can still be used by future community members who want to show their Black Desert loyalty!

Guild Wars 2

For a while now, we've been working on improving our Guild Wars 2 infrastructure and trying to find the perfect balance between a structured approach to internal event planning and an open approach for anyone who just wants to use our TeamSpeak for their own events. For a long time, there was just a bunch of confusing tags with similar roles and powers, and it was really not clear what was what. We've cleaned up our array of tags and established event-coordinating teams, so that no events are left behind. We also redistributed our moderators.

Commander tags simplified:

Instead of going through the changes, here's a short comprehensive list of the new tags:

  • Vs6a2QU.png Commander Tag
    • Anyone who wishes to command their own events on our TeamSpeak can acquire the Commander tag in the Guild Wars related channels. This tag does not come with any extra requirements or privileges, other than allowing others to see the commander in the channel.
    • Commanders have no responsibility towards internally scheduled OpenCommunity events, and are only responsible for the events they plan themselves - if they wish, they can of course assist with the former as well

OpenCommunity Event Team

  • EHlu8mI.png Event Commander
    • The Event Commander team focuses on any world events, such as HoT map content, Tequatl, The Shatterer, Dry Top, Silverwastes, etc. There are no lengthy training requirements, and commanders can freely choose which - and how many - events they would like to coordinate.
  • 0ptODME.png Triple Trouble Commander (sU8ZEaL.png for Trainees)
    • Triple Trouble Commanders is the designation for commanders who primarily focus on commanding Triple Trouble. As Triple Trouble is a complex event, and we use advanced TeamSpeak features, commander training is normally required for those who are new to commanding - which those with prior TT experience can skip.
    • Triple Trouble commanders can also choose to work with Event Commanders if they wish.

Additional guild-related tag:

We wanted to give guilds additional power & shinies to play with inside of their own channels, and created a tag which Guild Leaders & Officers can assign within their own guild channel, giving someone who is neither a guild Leader or Officer some extra powers (this can be used however the guild desires).

  • ug8vAda.png Guild Coordinator
    • Those who coordinate guild missions or other private events, but are not Guild Leaders or Officers can make use of the Guild Coordinator tag within their guild channel for practical reasons - so that the person who is coordinating is sorted on top of the channel. This tag can also be used internally in the guild channels in any way the guild using it desires.

You can read the full summary and descriptions of all GW2 related ranks here.

Staff Designations:

In order to accomodate the new structure, the following changes were made to the staff designations

  • Commander Lead position split up into two separate positions
    • Event Commander Lead oversees the Event Commander team
    • Triple Trouble Commander Lead oversees the Triple Trouble team
  • The full responsibility for scheduled events is only the priority of those two designations, and no longer a general Guild Wars 2 moderator requirement
  • Moderator Sabina is taking on the role of Event Commander Lead
  • Moderators Earl and Sithicus are now the two Triple Trouble Commander Leads

You can read more about Staff designations, roles, and their holders here.

Other notes:

  • We have set up a new comprehensive system of Event coordination, including utilizing the forums and Discord with the Event Team.
  • We've also performed a routine clean up of old inactive tags. Holders can speak to the appropriate Moderators to receive the tags upon their return.
    • There is no penalty for losing one's tag to inactivity. They are restored after the individual speaks to one of the appropriate moderators, simply due to new bookkeeping and making sure we don't have a large number of inactive commanders.
  • The Commander & Guild signups have been updated
  • We are preparing an improved infrastructure for guilds as well, enabling them to better connect with one another and establish connections within the community
    • As such, Moderator Dav will specialize as a Guild Manager in the coming days
    • Inactive guilds have been receiving reminders for the past 2 months, and once the Guild infrastructure overhaul takes effect, we will clean up some guilds that we haven't heard from in a while

Other Games

It seems that something is cooking in Sourunji's cauldron of ideas. Ohoho. Stay tuned!

  • What could it mean?
    • No one knows.

Hopefully you liked this slightly different presentation of everything that's new! There was a lot to cover, but we got through it! Got any comments, questions, opinions, or suggestions? Share them below, or contact us via the Feedback function, or catch any staff member directly and tell us what you think!
