  1. Hey everyone!

Our website has received a bit of a new outfit! The functionality of everything remains the same, but things will look slightly different from now on!

This release will enable us to start launching other features we've been working on for a while, which we've already been developing in this theme!

If you have any questions, or find any issues with the current theme, either visual glitches or broken functionality that we've missed, please let us know! You can reply to this thread here, or write to us via the feedback page!

  2. Hey everyone!

Boy, there sure is a lot happening in the next few weeks - let's break down what's coming up and the things we can look forward to in September & October ?

The majority of our events will be happening in Guild Wars 2, but there might be some fun stuff happening in Minecraft as well! Let's get right to it and see all the funky stuff that will be happening!

Living World Update | September 18

That's right, A Star to Guide Us, Episode 4 of Living World Season 4 is coming, and brand new content brings a whole lot of possibilities! There are so many new things, but far be it from us to spoil the news - check out the official trailer and the official announcement on the GW2 website!

As always, we will be taking a break from regular events for a bit when the update hits. This time, there will be a two-day break from regularly scheduled events, so that everyone can focus on that new story update and savor the new content! However, don't wait too long - we've got a special event coming up already on the 20th! Read below for more!

    Pink Day Season

Every October we dress up in pink to support one of the longest traditions in Guild Wars, which has now spread far beyond the world of Tyria - Pink Day in LA - the annual fundraiser to benefit cancer research! Just like every year, there'll be a ton of events, prizes, giveaways, and lots of fun to be had all around the community!

The Pink Day in LA event will be happening on October 20th, and OpenCommunity will once again be one of the official hosts for the event! More details about the event will be posted as the event draws nearer!

This year, we've got a whole bunch of special events coming up from all of our teams, so no matter what flavor of play is your favorite, there'll be something to do in the weeks leading up to Pink Day in LA!

Quaggans vs. Triple Trouble | September 20

Quaggans have stood on the sidelines of the battle for way too long, and wish to join the fight against the enemies of Tyria! Join our quaggan-manders on the normally regular Triple Trouble at 21:30 CEST for an unforgettable battle against the Three-Headed Jungle Wurm!

Don your pink quaggan tonic and join the fray, all the while supporting Pink Day in LA! And don't worry if you forget your quaggan tonic in your other armor - our commanders will be equipped with all the Pink Quaggan Tonics you could ever wish for! Quaggans, to arms!

    24 Hours of TT | September 22 & 23

Once the quaggans have shown the Evolved Jungle Wurm who's boss, our TT Team wants to make sure its three heads have been beaten back into the ground for good! In support of Pink Day in LA, our team will be undertaking the ultimate TT marathon challenge - 24 hours of TT!

Starting on the regularly scheduled Triple Trouble at 21:30 CEST on Saturday the 22nd, our commanders will be going for all additional 5 Triple Trouble events happening between then and the regular TT on Sunday the 23rd. That's seven wurms, twenty one wurm heads in total!

But don't worry, it's not all husks and egg spits, there'll be plenty of time in between events when our commanders will be organising special events such as Hide & SeekQuaggan Hunt, and all sorts of other shenanigans! Come join us on this charity marathon and let's raise the roof - and some prizes - for Pink Day in LA!

Expedition to Jahai Bluffs | September 29

As is tradition whenever a new map is added to Guild Wars 2, we'll be organising an expedition event to the newly added map! What does this mean? Well, an expedition is an event where we go around the map, doing events, seeing the sights, and taking in all the new content in a relaxed fashion. It's not a 100% exploration run, but we will be visiting all the waypoints, showing some cool locations & achievements, doing some group events, seeing if there are any activities that we can do as a regular event later on, and just having a good time!

Join us on Saturday the 29th, at 18:00 CEST as we delve into the Jahai Bluffs!

    October Activities

There's certainly a lot happening in September, but don't worry, we've not used all our best material on one month! There'll be plenty of activities coming up in October as well!

Our raid team doesn't want to be left out, so they're also preparing something special for Pink Day in LA! There'll also be some fun activities on our Minecraft server, so keep your pixellated eyes peeled for that! And what fate has befallen the Quaggans who so bravely fought against the Evolved Jungle Wurm? I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of them.

Stay tuned for more events, as we'll be rolling out further announcements as we draw closer to Pink Day in LA!

    Website Updates

While we're keeping ourselves busy in the game, we're also always tinkering away on the website, adding exciting new features and hopefully not breaking anything too significant! ? ?

In the next few weeks, we'll be rolling out some pretty major updates, including a brand new look & feel for the website, and Discord integration that will allow members to opt into specific event notifications, as well as join the server without having to wait for manual validation! We're also working on an update for our Raid Schedule functionality, a brand new home page, and a way for supporters to track whether their coveted packages of pins, mugs, and other assorted trinkets have been sent, all directly through the website!

    ~

In addition to everything listed above, we're also working on a truckload of other community improvements across all our platforms and areas of play, as well as other events and fun activities for our members!

We are really looking forward to everything coming up in the next few weeks, and I hope you are as well! ❤️

  3. Hey everyone!

It's time for our first mini treasure hunt - searching for the Shovel of Truth!

    Shovel of Truth.png

The shovel is unbreakable, meaning it never deteriorates at all, so it doesn't require mending! It can also be enchanted with regular enchantments, so it is truly a valuable item!

    Location

The treasure is located North-East from spawn! Here's a picture of the location and a zoomed in map!

More clues will be released as time passes without anyone finding the treasure!

Let us know once you've found it!

If a lot of animals cause the lags, a solution could be an animal farm which had lots of spawn eggs of different animals (not accessible to players, so they can't take them), so if people wanted to let's say kill a hundred cows, they wouldn't have to have a them loaded in all the time or breed them endlessly, but just go to the place, spawn the cows and kill them. This would probably make the gaming experience worse for some players as this method of obtaining items or experience might be the most efficient, but it can be quite boring aswell in my opinion.

After we get to have spigot: MobLimiter plugin (only leaves a configurable number of mobs per type per chunk on unload), and configure passive mob drops to give more per mob so people aren't as encouraged to breed hundreds of them for basic resources.

Right now you can feel the difference in tick rate when people who have a lot of animals bred log on/off.

(I realize I also have some, it could be avoided if passive mob drops were increased. This isn't aimed at anyone specific, it's just Minecraft performance being derp.)

We'll be looking into that plugin, thanks for the suggestion! ^^

Some sort of resource world/area for gathering materials to prevent the destuction of the original landscape, personal portals, some way (not neccessarily easy or quick way) to obtain hard to find and not replenishable items (such as saddles, shulker boxes, elytras etc.) was mentioned on Discord aswell earlier I think.

I asked about this since before launch ^^ A desert and mesa where people can go crazy with harvesting would be helpful.

Saddles count as treasures in fishing, you get more than enough with a good pick. The end is technically infinite (not really, but actually getting to the point where it doesn't generate anymore is... impractical), so if the world border gets removed you'll be able to explore and get more shulker shells and elytras. We could use the Hermitpack datapack, making the shulkers drop more shells and have it be a guaranteed drop, as well the make the elytra a dragon drop, so you can just kill the dragon for one if you don't feel like exploring.

Right now we are trying to add non-replenishable items (like saddles, shulker boxes, elytras, hearts of the sea and totems of undying) into the game via hidden treasures and as rewards for special events - this adds more of them into the game without really making them farmable.

We have been talking about an idea to create a choose-your-own reward type of thing, and give currency as a reward for participating in / winning special events and creating NPCs which will then take this special currency in return for different items as well, but that is still in early concept phase! But keep an eye out ^^

The idea of adding sand / clay pits that refill is also something pretty cool, and we're thinking of adding them as part of the building challenges - check out the thread here:

  7. Hey everyone!

Our initial plan was to just roll these events out without announcing our ideas for them in advance, but due to the lag-related delays, and in the interest of sharing our plans a little bit more, I wanted to make a little post about some of the events, or rather event types, that we had in mind - both for peeps to look forward to and for anyone who's thinking about joining the team to see a little bit of what we'd need help with!

Right now, we've got three main event concepts:

    Monthly Events

So, the main event idea has always been that we'd have an event where everyone gets together and does something every month. These would be various events that the team would come up with, and this is what the MC team would reserve the majority of its creativity for, and each event would be something new and fun to do!

These can include various events, from things such as the Dragon Raid, a boat race, the building / memory game (some people might remember us running that once ages ago), custom-built dungeons, brawls, and whatever else the team comes up with ^^ We have a couple concepts for these already, but mostly this is open to the creativity of the team members!

    Building Challenges

This is a cool new concept that would help encourage development of hubs in a fun & dynamic way - basically, a community-wide building challenge issued by a hub, for which the community as a whole gets a reward in the form of a special addition to the hub.

For example, the Medieval Hub could have a posting saying "A blackmith is looking to settle in town, and the town has issued a request for the construction of a smithy" - the challenge would be to build the smithy (possibly within an alloted time), and as a reward, a custom NPC would be added to town with favourable trade deals. Or, for example, a chapel project, which would then be occupied by a priest selling a book of Mending, building a shipyard for a delivery of materials, etc. Upgrades could even include things such as the much requested sand pit that refills over time or a mine where players can pick up an order of ore.

The building challenges are a nice alternative to the monthly scheduled events, as they aren't restricted to a specific time, so players in funky time zones or with tight schedules could participate more easily, and I think they'd add a cool unique functionality to hubs. It's also a slower-paced event, more suitable for players who don't feel as comfortable in the hustle and bustle of a 2-hour "everyone is online and everything is happening AAA" event.

The challenges could either be vague or have specific requirements, such as building size or location. The frequency & duration of challenges depends on the popularity of the idea ^^ When a challenge is issued, some materials could also be provided to encourage building, but we're not sure whether players would enjoy gathering all the mats and building the thing from start to finish or whether some materials should be provided. Let us know what you think!

The main concern we have with this event is that outside of these events, hubs would not see any construction, as players would just wait until a challenge was issued to not "waste" building time on something there isn't a reward for. The hope is that the challenges would encourage construction, as opposed to railroad it.

    Treasure Hunts

Randomly scattering treasures around the world is one thing (that we'll probably keep doing), but the idea behind treasure hunt events is slightly different - a treasure (or more? Depending on how popular the event is it might be better to place more so people don't all scramble for one and then it's game over when it's found) would be placed somewhere in the world at a marked location, and a screenshot of the location and / or a hint would be shared. After a while, further clues would be posted, until the treasure is found.

It's a pretty straightforward event that's also easy to run and can be easily repeated without a lot of prep, and can thus happen more often than the other two, even with a small team. And hopefully the treasures would be hidden well enough that it would take more than a few hours to find them after the first clue has been posted, which again would benefit people who cannot be online around the general times events are usually scheduled. Events like these also allow us to add more non-renewable items (such as elytras and totems of undying) into the game without making them farmable.

These are the three event type concepts that we've got for now - there's always more ideas to be had and we'd love to hear them, and there's also some other ideas that we want to try to do, but that depend on what the members of the the Minecraft team will be feeling up to!

So, overall, I hope you guys like the ideas. Our main goal was to come up with different types of events for different types of players, as well as something that offers a new exciting event every month without overworking a small team ^^

Updated the Activity section with a new addition - Special Team at Dry Top! Also made the steps clearer for the Specialist roles at Triple Trouble rankup procedure.

    Special Team at Dry Top

    • Participating in the Special / Roaming Team at a Dry Top event earns an activity tick. Since a Coordinator may not be present at the event, there are two steps to this:
      • During the preparation phase, whisper your commander that you'll be needing an activity uprank. Commanders cannot rank you up, but they will be able to confirm to a Coordinator that you were there and did actually participate in the special team.
      • After the event, message a DV coordinator and inform them you participated in the special team, and when. They'll be able to check with the commander, and you'll receive the activity tick.
    • Note: coming late to the event (past its scheduled time on our calendar), refusing to communicate, or afking during the event can lead to your activity not being recognised.
