  1. Hello & welcome to the community! This is definitely the right place to find some people to play with! ?

In terms of guilds, I would recommend checking out our guild page! Hopefully you'll find all of our guilds welcoming anyone without discrimination ? We are a teamspeak community so teamspeak is required, but speaking isn't, so while guilds may say that TS is required, note that this does not mean you have to use a mic yourself ^^

Whichever guild you pick, I hope you have a great time in our community, and hope to see you at some events! ?

  2. ―All things have a right to grow

    Hi everyone!

As part of Pride Month, I am excited to announce that for the third year in a row, we will be organizing Pride March Tyria, an in-game pride march to show support for our LGBTQ+ friends & guildies on:

    • Saturday, June 23rd, 16:00 CEST [EU] | 4 PM EDT [NA]
    • Sunday, June 24th, 16:00 CEST [EU] | 4 PM EDT [NA]

The events will last about 3 hours each day, with some fun pre-events to get everyone warmed up.

Before the main event, we are also doing two promo events, one in Heart of Thorns, and one in Path of Fire

    • Heart of Thorns - Saturday, June 2nd, 16:00 CEST [EU] | 4 PM EDT [NA]
    • Path of Fire - Saturday, June 9th, 16:00 CEST [EU] | 4 PM EDT [NA]

We march primarily to show our support for gender and sexual minority players, some of which have found Guild Wars 2 to be one of a few safe places to simply be themselves and get away from the hardships they face in the outside world.

In other words, we march to spread the message of positivity, acceptance and love!

Allies and proponents of equality for all are especially welcome to attend, as are those who are members of LGBTQIA+ communities!

In addition to having fun in-game, we also want to make a positive impact in the world by supporting a fundraiser! This year, we are teaming up with Gamers Giving Back, who is leading the organisation on the NA side, and together we are raising funds for the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, a non-profit focused on research, advocacy and education, working with LGBTQ+ people of all ages, and addressing issues from social to health concerns!

Anyone donating to the fundraiser can redeem rewards at OpenCommunity, such as the Tyria Pride 2018 badges on the website & teamspeak, and a physical rainbow GW2 logo badge! For more information on how to redeem your extra shinies, head on over to our donate page.

I am also pleased to announce that this year, for the first time, both EU and NA will be taking the same path on both days!

    TyriaPride_Path.jpg

Note: Paths on the day may vary slightly depending on avoiding in-game events or march distractedness!

General information on both EU & NA events!

    When do we meet?

The event begins at 16:00 CEST [EU] / 4 PM EDT [NA] both days, but we do ask people to come a little bit early. You should also already be able to reach the coordinators Lelling.6795 and AngelWriter.3652 at least one hour in advance. You can contact us in-game, on the forums, or join us on TeamSpeak (EU: ts.theopencommunity.org, no password, NA: solts.org, PW: franticzebra). You don't need a mic to join us on teamspeak and can just come hang out!

    Where do we meet?

Day 1: Ebonhawke, near the portal from Divinity's Reach! If you don't have explored yet, do not worry! You can reach Ebonhawke through a portal in Divinity's Reach, so we will also have a commander showing people the way through DR if needed. Click here for an image of the Day 1 path.

Day 2: Lion's Arch, at the Field of the Fallen! Lion's Arch is also connected to all major cities via Asuran portals, so you'll be able to reach easily with even a starting character! Click here for an image of the Day 2 path.

    Is Teamspeak required?

We do recommend Teamspeak, as we'll be using it to easily coordinate a large amount of people, get everyone into the same instance, and travel through loads of maps, as well as just chat and have fun! You can get the TS3 client for free on the teamspeak website and download it and have it ready to go in less than a minute!

However, Teamspeak is not required to join the event. Simply contact one of the coordinators & join their squad when the event starts, and you'll be able to join us!

EU Teamspeak address: ts.theopencommunity.org (short version: ts.gw2oc.org)

    NA: solts.org | PW: franticzebra

A microphone is not required, and you don't need to speak, so feel free to join us, even if you're shy!

How do we get on the same instance of the map?

We can, and will, do this through squads! The commanders will be coordinating via TS and squad chat to make sure we get everybody into the same map (or maps, if there's more people than can fit into one map). :D

    What do I bring?

You don't have to bring anything! But, party boxes, kites, transformations, fireworks, and other fun things of all kinds are of course welcome! If you wish to dye your armor in the traditional pride flag colours, that's also a fun way to express support!

Who can I contact about this?

    • EU: @Lelling - Lelling.6795
    • NA: Angel - AngelWriter.3652

If you would like to help organize this event, please let us know by contacting us in-game, on the forums, or by replying to this thread!

Please be aware that we are marching in the name of unity and acceptance. Any attacks on specific minorities, ethnic groups, religions, are not welcome at this event. This is also not a platform for political or religious debate. There are plenty of other places and times that are appropriate to start conversations regarding politics, policies, or religion.

    In-Game Donations

Anything you can spare is appreciated! We're currently working on crafting a Legendary weapon to give away, so Tier 6 crafting materials and Globs of Ectoplasm are always nice!

  3. Hey everyone!

April saw the end of our longest running supporter reward set - the Ascendant Supporter set! It was available for almost two years, and featured the introduction of physical items as rewards for supporting the community, and we were absolutely overwhelmed with the support everyone has shown to us by donating to keep this community running and growing. It really means a lot, so thanks so much to everyone who supported us so far!

    Founder Badges

As we're entering our fourth year of this community, we wanted to focus a little bit on the people who helped us in the very beginning. Towards the end of 2015, as the Admins found the expenses of running the community were becoming a little bit too much for us, a few people suggested they'd like to donate if we put a fundraiser, so we ran an Indiegogo campaign, and not only did the community help us hit our goal, we almost reached 250% of our initial target!

To reiterate how important their contributions were for this community, and give them a little bit more distinct recognition, we have renamed the Champion Supporter and Legendary Supporter ranks to Champion Founder and Legendary Founder, respectively, and applied some polish to the original designs of the badges!

      SupporterA3Champion_2018.png  SupporterA4Legendary_2018.png

    Heroic Supporter Set

Thanks to everyone who donated to support the community, we've not only been able to keep the community going, but with the Ascendant Supporter set, we've also been able to estimate and bring down the costs of mailing out physical items to make them available to lower supporter tiers!

And with that, we are happy to announce the first few tiers of the Heroic Supporter Set!

    SupporterB3Gallant.pngSupporterB4Valiant.png

    SupporterB5Heroic.gif

The supporter set becomes available with Gallant Supporter, and already features a physical reward at that tier! A brand new series of mugs is also available in this set, at the Heroic Supporter rank!

The Heroic Set became available on May 1st, and any donation made from then onwards counts towards reward progress towards this set!

    Physical Items

During the first ever Community Assembly, we asked community members what kind of items you'd like to see in the future! A couple suggestions have been thrown out, including mouse mats, keychains, and even some slightly bigger items. A few favorites also stood out - the idea of Atila's adorable bibi badges on small pins or fridge magnets was just too good to resist, so we are giving our supporters the option of choosing either!

This first series of OC Bibi badges features 5 different designs featuring Atila, OC's official bibi artist, and the 4 members of staff at the time of the buttons being ordered! Supporters get a choice of pin or magnet, and then receive a random one out of the set. As more badges are received at higher tiers, we guarantee no duplicates, meaning that members are able to obtain all 5 designs!

    MagnetPin_Border_Blue.png

We also promised to look into reducing the cost of ordering & shipping OC mugs, to make them available at lower tiers, and as promised, we were able to make the brand new design of the color-changing OC mugs available at effectively 1 tier lower than before! The brand new mugs will feature bibi icons of current & former community commanders and staff members!

    MugDisplay_S_Border_Blue.png

We are also currently getting this design signed with a little note of thanks from each bibi featured on the mug! Stay tuned for the signed version of the mug in the coming days!

  5. Hey everyone!

In September 2017 we relaunched the Event Team with Event Team 2.0, a really successful relaunch that allowed us to schedule open world events with a brand new team, with a brand new structure, and a brand new approach! That's a lot of brands!

The Triple Trouble Team last received a general update in 2016, and since then, a lot of things have changed, and we've also learned a lot, both from Triple Trouble, as well as from our Event Team relaunch, and as such, we want to apply what we've learned to the Triple Trouble Team as well!

However, we know you guys want to keep doing Triple Trouble, so we decided that unlike with Event Team 2.0, we are not going to be taking a break! The Event Team relaunch took us 2 months, and that was a long time with no events, so rather than releasing all our changes in one big go and pausing the team in the meantime, we've decided to roll out changes as we develop them in the next 1-2 months, involving all team members in the discussion!

    What's changing?

The main improvements / changes we want to make are to our structure and our attitude! We don't want Triple Trouble to become a routine for people, so we want to focus on making sure the event is fun and dynamic, and we also want to cultivate an even more friendly, fun, and open atmosphere on Teamspeak!

You've actually already seen some of minor changes happen - we recently moved the start time from XX:20 to XX:30, to cut down on unnecessary waiting time, and improved our taxi routine to be smoother and faster!

Aside from improving the event for members, we also want to improve it for our commanders! With our structure update, we're hoping to create a space for all types of commanders - new commanders who wish to learn, experienced commanders who just wish to command, and commanders with a desire to be more deeply involved with the community and the team!

    More Details?

If you're curious about a more detailed rundown of the new outline we have planned structure-wise, you can find it in the spoiler tag here:

    Spoiler

    New Structure

    • Trainee
    • Commander
    • Senior Commander

    Trainee

A trainee is the rank members get when first joining the team. During this time, they learn not only how to command the event, but also how to use the whisperlist and engage the community to ensure that people come out of the event feeling satisfied and happy.

There is no minimum or maximum time for someone to be a trainee, it can be as short or as long as someone needs!

Trainees should always, if possible, be accompanied by a Commander or Senior Commander, so that they do not feel intimidated by the event and have a safety net if necessary! More experienced Trainees can do runs alone, however, it is important that members don’t get stuck as a trainee for extended periods of time. If a trainee is able to run wurms alone, then they are most likely ready or at least close to ready for a Commander tag.

    Commander

Commanders are team members who are able to run the event by themselves, understand the basics and are able to deal with a certain amount of unexpected situations.

This rank is most suitable for people whose main priority is focusing on commanding TT.

    Senior Commander

Senior Commanders are those who are interested in, and have time to put in more than commanding TT. These are people interested in making decisions, and are the main decision-making body of the team. That being said, the voices of Commanders and Trainees are not to be ignored, and Senior Commanders should represent them as well.

In addition, in order to ensure that the TT Team is well represented in the OC Staff, at least one Senior Commander should be made a member of staff at OC.

    Mentor System

Trainees should not learn from a single person, and as such, there is no permanent direct mentorship. Trainees and their progress should be followed by a number of different Commanders and Senior Commanders, to avoid cliques or persistent gaps of knowledge or commanding focus.

However, when a trainee joins the team, they will be assigned a mentor who follows their progress. During this time, the mentor evaluates the trainee’s progress, both from personal feedback as well as collecting feedback from others, and the trainee’s own self-evaluation. The mentor can then submit their evaluation of the trainee, giving them a run-down of things they’ve already accomplished, and things they should work on to get the full tag. To get a second opinion and perspective, a different mentor can be assigned after this evaluation if needed.

To be eligible to mentor others, a commander does not have to be a Senior Commander, however, Senior Commanders are the ones in charge of mentors.

    Weekly Meetups

Weekly meetups are an important way for the team to get together outside of an event, where the majority of time is spent in separate channels. It’s a place to review, discuss changes, as well as plan events for the future, including special events.

Weekly attendance is not mandatory, although most Senior Commanders are expected to come relatively regularly, as well as any team members who wish to pitch in ideas or suggestions.

    Discord

The Team will have several team-related discord channels - for general team discussion, planning & discussing upcoming TTs (cancelling), feedback, as well as anything else the team feels like they need. The discord should be an auxiliary method of communication, not the main method - we wish to keep things personal with the team, rather than feeling like a work environment!

It can be particularly helpful for small notes and catching up, as well as useful to those who miss a weekly meetup and still wish their voice to be heard!

One of the biggest changes we're hoping to bring to the team is a lot of brand new team members, and this is where you come in!

Become a part of something new!

This is an exciting time in the development of our TT Team, and it's a perfect time for anyone who's interested in joining, as you can play a part in shaping the community's future directly!

If you're considering joining the team, go to our signup form, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments or message me privately!

    Join the Team!

And don't worry, the signup can merely be you saying you're interested - we can then talk one on one to iron out any details and questions you may have!

Hoping to be inundated with applications,

~Lelling, the OC Staff and the TT Team!

  6. Hi everyone!

The day of OpenCommunity's third birthday is fast approaching, and celebrations are definitely in order!

So what is the Community Weekend?

The Community Weekend celebration is a two-day event packed extravaganza of crazy, fun events, challenges, competitions, and some good old fashioned world boss slaying! All regularly scheduled events are off for the two days, and are instead replaced with Quaggan Hunts, Hide & Seek, Fashion Wars, and more!

    When/where does it happen?

The official date of the Community Birthday is May 1st! Since it's a Tuesday, we're going to mark the occasion with a Tipsy Triple Trouble event at the regular TT time at 21:30 CEST while holding the celebration on the next weekend!

So, the Community Weekend event happens on Saturday & Sunday, the 5th and 6th of May! We usually start gathering and hanging out at around 13:00 CEST, and start the events officially at 14:00 CEST with a Triple Trouble to get nicely warmed up, and continue from there! You can join us at any time during the day, hop onto our TeamSpeak (ts.theopencommunity.org) and join in with the fun! The event is held on our TeamSpeak!

What kind of events are there? Are there any requirements to join? Will there be prizes?

There are all kinds of events happening (see full schedule below). We do our best to serve a mixed bag of all sorts of events, so that everyone gets to participate in something fun! We plan out the events so that they require minimal to no world exploration, setting locations in Lion's Arch or racial capitals, or areas adjacent to those! Coming on a level 80 character is recommended, but for most events it is not required! And yes! There will be prizes! Lots and lots of shiny prizes!

How can I support the event?

There are many ways to support the event! You can tell your friends, guildies, pets, and sentient plants about it, and invite them along! You can also donate in-game prizes to increase our prize pool for the weekend! You can mail anything you think would help as a prize to Lelling.6795 or Ellyxina.5023! Anyone donating prizes in value of 5g or more (either items or currency) will be entered into a prize raffle!

    So what's the event schedule?

Here is the full event schedule. More information on individual events can be found below. (Times are in CEST [UTC+2])

I want to know more about the individual events!

    Here you go:

    Saturday

    Triple Trouble - 14:00 CEST [12:00 UTC/Server time]

Triple Trouble is the most difficult open world event in the game as far as coordination goes, and it's also one of the most fun ones! Join us in defeating the legendary Three-headed Wurm for fun, loot, and shinies! Tactics for the event will be explained for anyone who is new to it!

    Level requirement: 56 (80 recommended)
    Location: Bloodtide Coast

    Hide and Seek - 15:15 CEST [13:15 UTC/Server time]

Hide and Seek is what it says on the tin. Commanders will hide in one of Tyria's maps, and it's up to everyone else to find them! Each commander also gives out a shiny when found. Commanders will always be in accessible locations (no gliding, no map breaking, no items or teleportation), and will give out hints when enough time has elapsed so the game is always fair and fun!

    Level requirement: N/A
    Location: Secret

    Tonic Race - 16:30 CEST [14:30 UTC/Server time]

Don your favorite costume, tonic or transformation, and let's race! Win fabulous prizes and have fun in a crazy race of quaggans, snowballs, and other assorted objects. The tonic race puts everyone on equal ground, as participants are transformed into tonics which disable their passive bonuses and prevent mounting! Transformed, racers must run through a series of checkpoints until they reach the finish line! Tonics will be provided!

    Level requirement: N/A
    Location: Secret

Great Tyrian Bake Off - 17:30 CEST [15:30 UTC/Server time]

Cooking in GW2 is one of the most diverse and tasty-looking in-game professions of any MMO, so what better way to celebrate it than by throwing a massive cook-off? The Bake Off is an event where participants get to practice their creativity with the Chef crafting profession. Contestants will be asked to submit dishes based on certain criteria, with the goal of creating the most unique menu in Tyria! On your marks, get set, BAKE!

Note: Use of the trading post is allowed, and the Chef crafting profession is not required!

    Level Requirement: N/A
    Location: Lion's Arch

    Escort Quest - 18:30 CEST [16:30 UTC/Server time]

Ah, the Escort Quest - an RPG staple. Following around an NPC that moves way too slowly and keeps getting themselves into trouble is a classic MMO feeling, and what better way to relive it than to escort a defenseless, mountless friend from a starting area to a dangerous end-game zone as fast as possible without them dying? Participants will be grouped into groups of 4, and assigned one of our level 2 volunteers, who will then follow them around as they make their way to their goal!

    Level requirement: 80
    Location: Secret

    Naked Shatterer! - 20:45 CEST [18:45 UTC/Server time]

The Shatterer is no challenge for such dedicated world boss slayers as us, and thus we challenge it to a fight wearing nothing but our birthday suits!

    Level requirement: 50 (80 recommended)
Location: Blazeridge Steppes (Lowland Burns Waypoint)

    Triple Trouble - 21:20 CEST [19:20 UTC/Server time]

The Triple Trouble event is a fast-paced, high-intensity event where three teams must coordinate their efforts to slay the three heads of the Wurm at the same time. Due to the large number of split-second decisions, TeamSpeak is required. No experience with the event is required, all tactics & mechanics are explained beforehand.

We'll be doing a naked Triple Trouble on the next day, so this is a good time to get some practice in for those who've never done it before!

    Level requirement: 56 (80 recommended)
    Location: Bloodtide Coast

    Afterparty! - After Triple Trouble

After the scheduled events are over, the sky is the limit. Anything can happen during the afterparty, but if history is any indication, this is the time for silliness, massive quaggan trains moving accross Tyria, rolling around the world taking screenshots, and more! Brace yourself, for the night is young, and there's a whole new day of events the next day as well!

    Sunday

    Triple Trouble - 14:00 CEST [12:00 UTC/Server time]

The Triple Trouble event is a fast-paced, high-intensity event where three teams must coordinate their efforts to slay the three heads of the Wurm at the same time. Due to the large number of split-second decisions, TeamSpeak is required. No experience with the event is required, all tactics & mechanics are explained beforehand.

Later in the evening, we'll be doing a Naked Triple Trouble, so this is a good warm up!

    Level requirement: 56 (80 recommended)
    Location: Bloodtide Coast

    Quaggan Hunt - 15:15 CEST [13:15 UTC/Server time]

Our Community Weekend events present a number of challenges for the players, organized by our commanders, but it's rarely the other way around - well, that's where the Quaggan Hunt comes in! The players hide around a single instance of one map, transformed into quaggans, while the Coomanders must do their best to assemble the largest squad of quaggans by finding them all! Quaggan tonics will be provided to those who don't have them!

    Level requirement: N/A
    Location: Secret

    Jumping Puzzle Race - 16:30 CEST [14:30 UTC/Server time]

We love jumping puzzles - they're a classic GW2 feature of tears and toil, and what's more fun than that?  Join us for a fun Jumping Puzzle contest - we promise we wont pick the hard ones! All the contestants will be put on a level playing field, so don't worry if you don't have perma-swiftness or mounts as they wont come into play for the race!

    Level requirement: N/A
    Location: Secret

    Belcher's Bluff - 17:30 CEST [15:30 UTC/Server time]

Belcher's Bluff is a minigame of drinking, bluffing, and - you guessed it - belching! It's a fun game and if past events are any indication, it can get surprisingly exciting when two players are neck and neck! Are you the ultimate Master of Om? Join us for a short Belcher's Bluff elimination-style competition where players compete in pairs of 1v1 until we crown a champion!

    Level Requirement: N/A
    Location: Lion's Arch

    Fashion Wars - 19:00 CEST [17:00 UTC/Server time]

True to its name, Guild Fashion Wars is not a battle against the dragons, it's a battle against your friends and guildies' wardrobe choices! Who will be Tyria's next Top Model? Prepare your finest couture and dazzle both the audience and the judges! Note that riches aren't required to charm your audience - even rags can make a winning outfit! Whether it's the fiercest or the funniest look, bring your best and show everyone what you got!

    Level requirement: N/A
    Location: Lion's Arch

    Naked Tequatl - 20:45 CEST [18:45 UTC/Server time]

There's something in the water! It's a shoulder piece, boots, leggings, and a fancy scarf. Don't worry, these aren't the remains of a fallen hero, this is just a sign of a good old Naked Tequatl party! Who even needs armor to defeat Zhaitan's champion? Throw away those clothes and let's party in the Sparkfly Fen!

    Level requirement: 66 (80 recommended)
    Location: Sparkfly Fen

    Fun Triple Trouble (pt.2) - 21:20 CEST [19:20 UTC/Server time]

Due to popular demand we are going to attempt to fight the ultimate world boss, the Three Headed Jungle Wurm, naked! Hold on to your hats - then throw them away - this is going to be a wild ride!

    Level requirement: 56 (80 recommended)
    Location: Bloodtide Coast

    Afterparty! - After Triple Trouble

After the scheduled events are over, the sky is the limit. Anything can happen during the afterparty, but if history is any indication, this is the time for massive quaggan trains moving accross Tyria, tipsy conversations about the nature of the universe, and epic screenshot parties! We'll send off our weekend of celebrations with a bang!

Let's now officially start the OpenCommunity 3rd Birthday Celebration and Community Weekend HYPE!
