Overwatch is great, but it's 10x better if you have a full team of friends. My bunch decided that we won't play it that much, while we have league, cs and other stuff we play, so I didn't buy it. But if you intend to play a lot, it's probably worth the money.

    There is a thing I discovered - Overwatch isn't actually 60€

Overwatch actually costs only 40€, but the store defaults to a special edition, which contains some alternate skins for Overwatch heroes, icons for Starcraft II, a card back for Hearthstone, Tracer for HotS, etc. So if you're not interested in that stuff you can just buy Overwatch for 40€ ^^

  2. In order to provide a bit more clarity and transparency behind the changes in the community, we decided to start making posts like these, so that we can have a consistent way of conveying any news & changes to the community, as well as immediate plans for the future!

    Let's get right to it!

    Black Desert

At release, we dove into Black Desert full force, reserving quite a large spot for it in the community in order to facilitate potential guilds or individuals joining our community. We approached it with open arms as opposed to just giving Black Desert players a small dusty corner in the community, and will most likely continue this approach with future MMOs. However, Black Desert's system doesn't really encourage social play the way Guild Wars 2 does. As such, it didn't really spark interest with our existing members. In order to make sure we're not cluttering the TeamSpeak and forums, we're moving Black Desert down to the Gaming Area. If activity or demand increases, we will restore Black Desert to its previous position.

    • TeamSpeak: Black Desert has been moved into the Let's Game area as a single channel with subchannels
    • Forums: The Black Desert forum has been moved, and is now a subforum of the Let's Game forum
    • The "Community Member - BD" tag for Black Desert players will not be removed, and can still be used by future community members who want to show their Black Desert loyalty!

    Guild Wars 2

For a while now, we've been working on improving our Guild Wars 2 infrastructure and trying to find the perfect balance between a structured approach to internal event planning and an open approach for anyone who just wants to use our TeamSpeak for their own events. For a long time, there was just a bunch of confusing tags with similar roles and powers, and it was really not clear what was what. We've cleaned up our array of tags and established event-coordinating teams, so that no events are left behind. We also redistributed our moderators.

    Commander tags simplified:

Instead of going through the changes, here's a short comprehensive list of the new tags:

    • Vs6a2QU.png Commander Tag
      • Anyone who wishes to command their own events on our TeamSpeak can acquire the Commander tag in the Guild Wars related channels. This tag does not come with any extra requirements or privileges, other than allowing others to see the commander in the channel.
      • Commanders have no responsibility towards internally scheduled OpenCommunity events, and are only responsible for the events they plan themselves - if they wish, they can of course assist with the former as well

    OpenCommunity Event Team

    • EHlu8mI.png Event Commander
      • The Event Commander team focuses on any world events, such as HoT map content, Tequatl, The Shatterer, Dry Top, Silverwastes, etc. There are no lengthy training requirements, and commanders can freely choose which - and how many - events they would like to coordinate.
    • 0ptODME.png Triple Trouble Commander (sU8ZEaL.png for Trainees)
      • Triple Trouble Commanders is the designation for commanders who primarily focus on commanding Triple Trouble. As Triple Trouble is a complex event, and we use advanced TeamSpeak features, commander training is normally required for those who are new to commanding - which those with prior TT experience can skip.
      • Triple Trouble commanders can also choose to work with Event Commanders if they wish.

    Additional guild-related tag:

We wanted to give guilds additional power & shinies to play with inside of their own channels, and created a tag which Guild Leaders & Officers can assign within their own guild channel, giving someone who is neither a guild Leader or Officer some extra powers (this can be used however the guild desires).

    • ug8vAda.png Guild Coordinator
      • Those who coordinate guild missions or other private events, but are not Guild Leaders or Officers can make use of the Guild Coordinator tag within their guild channel for practical reasons - so that the person who is coordinating is sorted on top of the channel. This tag can also be used internally in the guild channels in any way the guild using it desires.

You can read the full summary and descriptions of all GW2 related ranks here.

    Staff Designations:

In order to accomodate the new structure, the following changes were made to the staff designations

    • Commander Lead position split up into two separate positions
      • Event Commander Lead oversees the Event Commander team
      • Triple Trouble Commander Lead oversees the Triple Trouble team
    • The full responsibility for scheduled events is only the priority of those two designations, and no longer a general Guild Wars 2 moderator requirement
    • Moderator Sabina is taking on the role of Event Commander Lead
    • Moderators Earl and Sithicus are now the two Triple Trouble Commander Leads

You can read more about Staff designations, roles, and their holders here.

    Other notes:

    • We have set up a new comprehensive system of Event coordination, including utilizing the forums and Discord with the Event Team.
    • We've also performed a routine clean up of old inactive tags. Holders can speak to the appropriate Moderators to receive the tags upon their return.
      • There is no penalty for losing one's tag to inactivity. They are restored after the individual speaks to one of the appropriate moderators, simply due to new bookkeeping and making sure we don't have a large number of inactive commanders.
    • The Commander & Guild signups have been updated
    • We are preparing an improved infrastructure for guilds as well, enabling them to better connect with one another and establish connections within the community
      • As such, Moderator Dav will specialize as a Guild Manager in the coming days
      • Inactive guilds have been receiving reminders for the past 2 months, and once the Guild infrastructure overhaul takes effect, we will clean up some guilds that we haven't heard from in a while

    Other Games

It seems that something is cooking in Sourunji's cauldron of ideas. Ohoho. Stay tuned!

    • What could it mean?
      • No one knows.

  3. Moved the thread over to the GW2 area ^^

It's not scheduled for today, but if there are people who want to coordinate it impromptu, it can definitely happen ^^

Our event team is currently being set up to be able to deal with daily events a bit better in the future, but right now Dragon's Stand is only scheduled on Tuesdays ^^

  4. Hello! So DV is quite a massive conglomerate of two guilds and we want to encourage people connecting to each other and chatting and doing all sorts of fun stuff ^^

    • Please note that OpenCommunity is currently undergoing a restructure. These Policies and Guidelines may be out of date and will be updated soon!

      OpenCommunity's duties towards guilds

      • Guilds within OpenCommunity still retain full independence, and OC shall not encroach upon their sovereignty
      • The community has a duty to treat all guilds fairly and equally, and help protect the integrity of individual guilds
      • Guilds are provided with information regarding all events organized within the community and are invited to take part in the organization themselves

      Guild Perks

      • The guild can call our community their home, and get provided with their own spaces on both our TeamSpeak and website
      • The guild gets a private TeamSpeak channel that belongs to them
        • This channel can have subchannels, which can be passworded
        • Guild Leaders & Officers (or equivalent) have moderation rights within that channel
        • Users can be assigned guild tags on TeamSpeak to represent their guild when attending events
      • Guilds can also use any of the following utilities:
        • An infocard on our guild page, with a join button with an integrated application system, forum link, and custom page link
        • A guild subforum

      Guild Requirements

      • Guilds are required to follow community rules, even within their private channels
      • Community guilds must be committed to OpenCommunity's message of positivity and creating a positive change in the video game community
      • Guilds have to keep a line of communication with OpenCommunity (either through Guild Leaders, Officers, or other representatives), via the OC discord
        • This is to make sure guilds are properly accommodated and represented within the community, as well as letting us know if a guild is disbanding or taking a hiatus.
      • Community guilds should have an internal structure in place with which they can reliably inform their guild of upcoming major community events.
      • Guilds should be aware they are representing the community even when not doing community events
      • Guilds are NOT required to provide commanders or coordinate events in order to qualify as community guilds

      Members

      • Community members may be in any number of community guilds at the same time
        • Guilds are not allowed to prevent their members from joining another OC guild
      • Community guilds watch each other's backs - warning each other of problematic members.
      • Community guilds promise to deal with members internally after a complaint has been issued.
        • Complaints are generally directed to a guild leader or officer, who can then resolve the issue internally.
      • Community guilds shouldn't give their members special treatment before other OC members, including but not limited to:
        • Giving members that have been banned from OC platforms covert access or ways to bypass bans
        • Giving people a way around OC requirements for events, such as taxiing people through guild chat into a TS-only event

I was wondering though, could Discord at some point make TS obsolete ?

We've looked into that possibility, and came to the following conclusion: not in the foreseeable future. The usability it has when it comes to voice communication is very limited, and its permission system is very basic compared to the extensive TS system. I don't imagine we'll be using it for voice for a while.

Pugs are more likely to follow commander on east, which I believe needs a lot more people than west does. But I dont understand the need for 10 people to do escort event in west while 'special' team barely gets 3 people to do 4 events at the same time.
So, West team should merge with special and spread out a bit, while East needs 2 people (from like 30 who are following comm) to do 1 event every 5 mins. Comm can mark locations on east and ask for persons in squad to finish those.

2 squads are more than enough, we just need a little better organization.

If the escort you're talking about is the Rustbucket Escort event - you are right. It shouldn't be done by 10 people. But this has never been the case, so I don't know where you're coming from.

Rustbucket & Beetles are notorious for scaling up horribly and they have always been done by 1 or 2 people maximum.

I think you may be mixing up some of the tactics. The West events that the tag used to be up on in the old system were the Skritt Supplies & Inquest Suit, with a group of 5-10 people on the tag, and 1 or 2 people would be sent off to do Rustbucket & Beetles.

Part of the distinction between West & Special has also been that the Special team waypoints a lot and micro-organizes itself, and essentially each member of it can do a separate event. Merging West with that could be confusing to people, and it would a way too large amount of events as a responsibility of one team, risking that events may not get done.

You are welcome to provide workable suggestions or organize the event yourself.

What I dont understand is why do we have a ''special'' team? Most of those events are on west and as far as I know all events on west don't need more than 5 people. So instead of making special team, people on west should spread out and cover all of  the events. On the other side all ''special'' events on east are soloable (except maybe for tendril one which is doable by 1 or 2 persons).

The team setup (West, East and Special) comes from before improved squads.

The tactic was, you would tag up with 2 tags so that players (pugs) can see where to go, and they have a choice. We optimized the route for each tag individually, and then the special team was added as a party of 4 to 5 members that did all the other events.

Also, even if the events are soloable, that still means you need to designate someone (and just 1 person, since some of them upscale very badly) to do them.

Now we've just absorbed the Western squad into the Eastern one, so that we eliminate the need for 2 commanders, and assimilated the special team into the main squad as well, so that practically the entire map can be easily managed by 1 commander.

I think due to the new squad mechanics, we could rethink the tactics for the map, perhaps having the main blob + 2 specialized teams of 3-5 people, with a liutenant each, one for each side.

    • @Minithra OMG Dizzy :D I remember playing that on my old DOS computer ^^ What a silly game xD

Aaaand here's another game I really like, that I haven't seen too many people talk about!

      Darkstone

      header.jpg?t=1447363374

Darkstone is what I'd call one of the more successful Diablo clones of its time. It's a 1999 hack & slash RPG that was quite decent for its time ^^ Recently it became available on Steam but it is already slightly outdated.

However, (dun dun DUNNNN) it has also been released for iOS & Android for FREE in 2014 so you can play it on your tablet or mobile device! I actually got it and I have to say I enjoy it quite a bit in its mobile version. And so far I haven't really encountered any microtransactions that would prevent progress unless you were willing to pay money.

Overall, it's a fun little RPG with an ok storyline that isn't really that complex or riveting, cool spells and some interesting puzzles. I'd say there's actually a few more puzzle elements than in Diablo 1 or 2, or the newer counterpart, Path of Exile. The game also has a couple of variants in which it generates its world, so it has some degree of replayability. Overall it's pretty fun.

I don't know if I'd recommend it for PC, but I would definitely recommend trying it out on Android / iOS, and it has some good reviews there as well! As a mobile game, it's definitely one of the best RPGs out there (probably because it wasn't developed as a mobile game and thus didn't have all the annoying microtransaction stuff in it).

      Available on:
      Steam (5€)
      GoG (5,19€)

      Android / iOS (free)

Oh, also, when it came out, it came with this pretty cool & catchy song & video. And the song would play in-game if you paid a bard in the village a gold coin :D

Reddit post order has Town and North Mine in the opposite order from the guide. Which is best? :D

On 02/05/2016 at 1:59 PM, Sithicus said:

Hmmm well purely out of habit I do the Town first, it takes about 30 seconds to wipe it clean, then everybody can go into Mine without getting distracted by another nearby event to Tag, but either way it's all good I think hehe

The official tactic we always did was Town (1 veteran) -> North Mine -> Town (if it's still up).

What happens is pugs will clean out the rest of the town event, while the people who are listening can move out and already assist in the mine. Because everyone killed one of the three veterans they'll get participation :)

The reason we don't just go into the North Mine first is because pugs will always do the town event, so getting at least one veteran with everyone means everyone gets participation ^^

    • Hey ^^

Like Sithicus said, right now we are using Discord for event coordination and staff discussions, but we are definitely looking at the possibility of having a public Discord server as well ^^ It definitely looks like it could be a very useful thing to have :)

We're also looking at ways it could be integrated into our forums, so people could easily access it from the sidebar and not have to deal with navigating several pages at once or having to run extra applications =)

So there's definitely exciting times ahead for fans of Discord!

      And congrats again!

    • Hey ^^

We appreciate your concern. While OpenCommunity chooses to support Cybersmile because their goals and ours are aligned and we strive to achieve the same things, we also thought of those who might want to support us directly.

That is why we've extended the availability of the badges to last until June 20th, after our Cybersmile fundraiser ends on May 31st. This allows people who want to donate solely to the community to still acquire the limited time badges & bonuses.

For you, I can also make an exception, if you want, you can mark your donation with "(No Cybersmile)" and we will discount that from the equation ^^ Does that sound ok?

As said in the campaign, the funds from the Indiegogo campaign are being used to pay for:

      • Server costs
      • Website & IPS costs
      • Domain name, etc.

All this amounts to around 100€/month on average, ignoring some initial purchase costs.

Additionally we always want to have a buffer of around 300-500€ ready to cover TeamSpeak costs (we are running on a non-profit license, but TeamSpeak can decide at any point in time that because we are accepting donations and are not a charity, we don't qualify, even though we are still non-profit. This would terminate our TS server unless we could pay for it on the spot) A TS license would cost between $300-$500/year depending on the size of the license required.

In the future, we plan to add additional servers to support other games (Minecraft, Don't Starve Together), which is where we are expecting any future surplus will be directed to.

As far as providing full financial statements, I'm afraid that's not feasible, nor is it customary.

P.S.: If you need additional proof that the money is being used as intended - look around ;) We have fulfilled every single campaign promise made during our Indiegogo campaign, and plan on continuing doing so & more in the future!

    • Hear ye, hear ye!

DV is looking for Coordinators! If you feel like helping out, let us know and we'll get you started!

So what do Coordinators in DV do?

Here's a simple rundown of what coordinators can do:

      • Invite others into the guild, and can provide new members with advice, guidance, and information about DV
      • Organize guild missions, being able to either schedule them as a weekly event, just do a one-off every now and then, or just activate easier missions if members decide to do them on their own
      • Handle PvP teams, allowing people to complete their PvP missions and creating PvP teams for others if necessary
      • Help out with mailing out the in-game monthly newsletter
      • Keep an eye on the behaviour in guild chat and in-game, and in case of minor offenses act on their own, and in case of major offenses, document (scerenshot) the behaviour and report it to an Officer or Leader.

It's important to note that Coordinators don't have to do all of these things ^^ Coordinators work as a team and there's usually not a lot to do as long as everyone is pitching in!

Well, being a Coordinator sounds good, but I want to be an Officer, or even a Leader! How do I do that?

The first step towards becoming an Officer is definitely being a Coordinator ^^  Officers have a lot of power in DV, so it's important we can get to know you before you get the keys to destroying everything :P

In addition to doing what Coordinators do, Officers also manage the guild database, make sure that everything is running smoothly, and deal with any disputes or issues in the guild.

Great! How do I sign up?

You can reply to this thread, or message me or Slay on the forums or in-game ^^

    • Hey everyone ^^

Just a very quick heads up - we've gotten some feedback from people that they'd like to donate to support both us and Cybersmile but do not have the funds at the moment, and we've also had concerns with making our new badges exclusive to just the month of April.

So we've decided to extend our Cybersmile fundraiser to the end of May, meaning in addition to 50% of all donations we received in April, we will also be sending 50% of all donations we receive in May to The Cybersmile Foundation!

We are also extending the availability of the badges - making them seasonal rather than bound to a specific month, so they will be lasting until the end of Spring!

We hope this gives people enough time, we really wanted to make sure people didn't feel pressured with the 30-day window to obtain any shinies they wanted. Thank you for your support!

      So to recap:

      • Cybersmile fundraiser extended until the 31st of May
      • Valiant & Heroic Supporter badges will be obtainable until the 20th of June
