    What's the community weekend?

The Community Weekend is two days when we get to unschedule all our usually-scheduled events and replace them with two days of various fun events, such as Hide & Seek, JP Races, Scavenger Hunts, and more! We also dedicate each Community Weekend to a charitable cause, both promoting it and raising funds for it!

Keep an eye on the calendar for a full list & times of specific events!

    When does it start?

The events start at 12:00 CET on both days, end go on to around 22:00 CET, with the afterparty usually lasting into the morning hours! You can drop in at any time! :D

    How do I join?

Simply connect to our TeamSpeak at ts.theopencommunity.org and join in the "Wintersday Community Weekend" channel! Hope to see you there!

Where can I find more information about the event?

Keep an eye on the calendar as more and more info will be added as the day draws close!

    How can I support Kaboom.org?

You can go to our fundraiser page for KaBOOM! at give.kaboom.org/opencommunity, or go to our donate page for more information! Anyone who donates to the fundraiser will receive our limited Wintersday Supporter badge on the forums, and the Wintersday Supporter icon on TS! The donation itself will also count towards the regular OpenCommunity supporter progress, which means you can unlock even more rewards such as custom character artwork!

  2. This is a gaming community currently operating mainly in Guild Wars 2, dedicated to creating a positive change on the internet - promoting diversity, raising money for charity and fighting the stereotype that everyone on the internet is an anonymous troll, hoping to use video games to create a change for the positive, inspired by communities such as Geek & Sundry, Gamers Giving Back and by people such as Felicia Day and Jane McGonigal.

    Welcome! :D

  3. It's time for another Community Update! The seasons have shifted and it's once again time for that wonderfully confusing week of half of the world switching time zones. In addition, we've wrapped up the very successful Pink Day campaign and our setting our sights on new horizons for the community!

    Time Zone Change

The community operates on a "default" time zone that is considered the main time zone in which times for events are announced and listed in-game, on TeamSpeak and on Discord. This is the time zone of the majority of our users - the Central European time zone. When countries using CET switch to CEST or vice versa, the community also adjusts our default time to the corresponding time zone.

    • The community has changed our default time from CEST [UTC+2] to CET [UTC+1]
      • As such, an event that would previously happen at 22:00 CEST happens at 21:00 CET.
      • For more information on what time it is in CET and how that corresponds to your local time, click the following link.
    • As the calendar is dynamic, the events listed on it will be in correct times for everyone, however, note that many areas in the Americas will be changing from Daylight Saving Time on November 6th.

    Forums

    General

As October draws to a close, we replace our pink ribbon theme and go back to our usual theme.

    • The pink ribbon forum theme has been replaced with our default theme. The pink theme is still available for anyone to use via the theme picker, which can be found at the bottom of any page on our forums.

    Guild Wars 2

We added an extra bit of polish to our GW2 section of the forums!

    • The GW2 section of the forums has been given GW2-themed icons for each forum!
    • We've added GW2-themed emoticons to the forums
      • :GW2_Commander::GW2_TTTT::GW2_TTT::GW2_ET::GW2_RPT:
      • :GW2_Asura::GW2_Charr::GW2_Human::GW2_Norn::GW2_Sylvari:
      • :GW2_Warrior::GW2_Guardian::GW2_Revenant::GW2_Ranger::GW2_Thief::GW2_Engineer::GW2_Elementalist::GW2_Mesmer::GW2_Necromancer:
    • The race and profession icons have been added to our Discord as well

Pink Day in LA Supporter Badges

The Pink Day Fundraiser which has been active for the duration of October has finished with the end of the month! Users have 5 more days to submit their request to redeem the Pink Day Supporter badge and receive the additional progress towards the Supporter rewards.

    • The instructions for redeeming the badge via a donation to the featured cause are listed on this page.

    Future Plans

We are hoping to improve many features of the community in the coming weeks.

    • We'll be rolling out tests for an updated homepage for our website soon, hopefully in November
    • We are hoping to increase our array of GW2 events, with both guild and roleplaying related events in the coming months
      • We are also planning a Community Weekend in late December (currently set on the 17th and 18th)
    • We are continuing to look for volunteers to help us in Community Management, Moderation and Developer positions - both on our platforms; website, forums, social media, and in games. Keep an eye out on the forums as we flesh out what kind of roles we're looking for to improve and grow our community!

As always, thanks for reading, we will continue to improve the community and make sure to update everyone on any changes in the future! :D

What / Where / When aaaa?

The community day is a day full of fun events, starting from mid-day till the late hours, with fun, prizes, and a charitable cause to support! It happens on October 23rd, starting at 14:00 CEST, on the EU Servers!

    How do I join?

Join us by connecting to our TeamSpeak at ts.theopencommunity.org and hop into the Community Day channel! You can hop in for any event, or stay for the whole run!

Our TeamSpeak has no speaking requirements for members so you can just listen and follow along, but the events will be mainly coordinated via voice communication!

Are there any requirements for joining?

We make sure to plan out events so they are accessible to the widest array of players - so for most, there are no requirements! They will happen in easily accessible non-HoT areas, so all players can participate! All events are explained as they happen, so you don't need any prior knowledge!

The world boss events Tequatl and Triple Trouble do have level requirements, so for those two, a level 80 character is recommended (56 minimum for TT, 66 for Tequatl).

Still in support of Pink Day in LA!

We will still be spreading the word for breast cancer awareness and raising money for the Pink Day donation drive by GamersGivingBack, so if you'll miss Pink Day on Saturday you can still join and show your support on Sunday!

    Screenshot contest!

Keep that print screen button busy, because if you post your screenshots from both Pink Day and the Community day in the official screenshot contest thread, you might win a prize! :D

    Hope to see you there!

  6. Hey everyone! I am pleased to announce that OpenCommunity has been confirmed as one of the two official European organizers for Pink Day in LA on October 22nd!

    20:00 - Official kickoff!
    Times are in CEST

What is Pink Day in LA?

Pink Day in Lion's Arch is an event aimed at raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research. It started in Guild Wars 1 in 2007 as a small gathering of people who dyed their armours with a combination of red and silver. Through the following years, PDILA has become more and more popular and ArenaNet even added the Pink Dye to GW1 specifically for the event, and has since then also moved into GW2 as well as recently into Archeage.

The event will be hosted on both NA and EU by several different organizers, and connected through GW-EN Radio! The event will take place in the evening of October 22nd, starting at 8 PM CEST (that's 12 PM Central Time for US peeps).

There will be different events that players can participate and win prizes in.

    How do I join?

You can join us by connecting to our Teamspeak3: ts.theopencommunity.org.

Alternatively, if you don't wish to use Teamspeak, you can join us in-game by keeping an eye out on the LFG on the day or contacting our commanders, or tune in to GW-EN radio on the day for information on how to join!

How do I join the OpenCommunity pre-events?

Simply hop onto our TS at ts.theopencommunity.org at any time and you'll see us in the Pink Day channel on the TeamSpeak! (For Triple Trouble, we'll be in the Triple Trouble Channel since it's a bigger event that needs subchannels).

The teamspeak & channels are not passworded and are open to all, and we don't have speaking requirements for users - but coordination is done via voice so it's recommended that you are there, even if you don't intend to speak! :D

    Where can I donate?

You can donate through the official donation page. Anyone who makes a donation and is also registered on our forums can, in addition to Pink Day rewards, also redeem the Pink Day 2016 supporter ribbon which will appear under your username on the forums:

    Special-PDILA2016.gif

In addition, as a featured cause, any donations made to Pink Day in LA will also progress your personal reward progress at OpenCommunity. Check out our donation page to see how to confirm your Pink Day donation with us.

    Where do the donations go?

The donations go to the Canadian Cancer Society, and the focus is primarily on breast cancer research - this is very important as we currently do not have a "cure" for cancer, and many large international Pink Ribbon organizations mainly raise money to proliferate already existing but ineffective drugs and awareness campaigns which garner profit. That is why it's important to fund charities which focus on research, such as the Canadian Cancer Society. Whenever donating - even if not to the Canadian Cancer Society - make sure that you do have access to information about where the money goes and what it's being used on.

Where can I stay tuned for more info?

    • For direct PDILA info, follow @PinkDayinLA on Twitter (Official hashtag: #pinkday2016)
    • For other charity news organized by Gamers Giving Back, follow @GamerGivingBack on Twitter
    • For news about our local organization of Pink Day, follow OpenCommunity on Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr, or join us on Discord

Event information will also be shared by our commanders and event organizers after each event, so keep an ear out after events. You can also follow this thread for any future updates, or keep an eye on our Discord announcements!

I can't donate, can I help out in other ways?

Yes! Here's a number of ways you can help!

    • Spread the word! Tell your guildies, friends, family and pets! Get everyone involved!
    • Follow & retweet the official Pink Day twitter and use the hashtag #pinkday2016
    • RSVP to the Pink Day in LA event on Facebook!
    • Share posts like these on Facebook & Twitter
